About
Serdar Dundar is a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer with over 25 years of UK and international experience, a Registered Expert Witness with the Institution of Structural Engineers, and a Practicing Associate Member of the Academy of Experts. He acts as Structural Expert Adviser on construction disputes involving reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, structural strengthening, construction methodologies, temporary works and deep excavations. Recent instructions have included independent review of transfer slab design, verification of punching shear capacity at slab-to-column connections, assessment of load paths through transfer structures, and compliance review against British Standards and Eurocodes. He provides reasoned opinion on structural adequacy, the reasonableness of analytical and modelling assumptions, and the proportionality of remedial measures. His opinions are grounded in hands-on design and construction. He has led the design of major refurbishment projects, deep excavations, metro stations, cut-and-cover tunnels, marine structures and major temporary works, including the design and independent (CAT III) checking of high-risk schemes such as the temporary erection equipment for precast segmental bridges. This gives him direct knowledge of where design and construction interface failures arise, and of the standard of skill and care expected at each stage of a project. He continues to advise on structural failures, building and construction defects, defective and non-compliant design, departures from recognised standards, and the strengthening and remediation of defective structures, including high-rise residential and industrial buildings.
